Resumen: | Objetivo: Describir las características clínico-epidemiológicas de pacientes oncológicos terminales que reciben cuidados paliativos atendidos en el Hospital Militar Central 2013. Metodología: Estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 62 pacientes oncológicos terminales que fueron atendidos en el Hospital Nacional Militar Central, durante el año 2013. Para el análisis descriptivo se empleó medidas de tendencia central; así como, frecuencias absolutas y relativas. Resultados: La edad promedio de los pacientes fue 56,6±7,8 años, siendo más frecuente el grupo etario de 56 a 72 años (59,7 por ciento), asimismo predominó el género masculino (53,2 por ciento). En relación al grado de instrucción la mayoría tuvo secundaria (38,7 por ciento) y el estado civil más frecuente fue casado (90,3 por ciento). Además la mayoría de los pacientes tenía IMC normal y las comorbilidades más frecuentes en los pacientes fueron hipertensión arterial (19,2 por ciento), EPOC (9,7 por ciento) y diabetes mellitus (6,5 por ciento). Las principales características clínicas de los pacientes atendidos de forma ambulatoria con respecto a la localización del tumor primario fue pulmonar y mama ambos con un 20 por ciento y los síntomas más comunes fueron a nivel digestivo: anorexia, náuseas/vómitos y caquexia; sistémica: astenia y anemia; y respiratoria: disnea y tos. Para los pacientes atendidos de forma intrahospitalaria la localización del tumor primario frecuente fue pulmonar y mama ambos con un 18,8 por ciento y respecto a los síntomas frecuentes también predominó la sintomatología digestiva (anorexia, náusea-vómito y caquexia) y sistémica (astenia y anemia) además de la dermatológica (ictericia y prurito). En el manejo ambulatorio se observó que la tercera parte de los pacientes habían registrado atenciones u hospitalizaciones previas durante el último año. Methodology: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 62 terminal cancer patients who were treated at the Central Military National Hospital during 2013. For the descriptive analysis, measures of central tendency were used; well as absolute and relative frequencies. Results: The average age of the patients was 56.6±7.8 years, more frequent age group of 56-72 years (59.7 per cent) and male sex (53.2 per cent). Regarding the level of education most had secondary (38.7 per cent) and the most common marital status was married (90.3 per cent). Moreover, most of the patients had normal BMI and the most frequent comorbidities were hypertension (19.2 per cent), COPD (9.7 per cent) and diabetes mellitus (6.5 per cent). The main clinical characteristics of patients treated on an outpatient basis with respect to primary tumor location was lung and breast both with 20 per cent and the most common symptoms were gastrointestinal symptoms: anorexia, nausea/vomiting and cachexia; systemic: asthenia and anemia; and breathing: dyspnea and cough.
