| Resumen: | Se realizó un estudio prospectivo y comparativo que investigó la relación entre la ingesta de vegetales carotenoides y la ocurrencia de lesiones pre malignas de cérvix, para ello se estudiaron, mediante entrevistas domiciliarias y un cuestionario de frecuencia de alimentos. 79 mujeres con diagnóstico de lesiones pre-malignas de cérvix realizado a través de citología cervical y 79 mujeres con citología normal atendidas en el Hospital Belén de Trujillo entre enero y junio de 1999. Para calcular la significancia, se utilizó la prueba X2 El nivel de significancia fue fijado en p menor que 0.05, como estadísticamente significativo. Se encontró que: La insuficiente ingesta vegetales carotenoides en la dieta se asocié a la ocurrencia de lesiones pre-malignas de cérvix, y que el menor grado de instrucción y la mayor paridad se asoció a mayor frecuencia de insuficiente ingesta de vegetales carotenoides en las mujeres con lesiones pre malignas de cérvix.
