| Resumen: | La presente investigación tuvo por objetivo determinar la relación entre el índice de masa corporal (IMC) pregestacional y la ganancia de peso de la gestante durante el embarazo con el peso del recién nacido, en el Hospital Materno Infantil Villa María del Triunfo durante mayo a junio de 2005; Material y Método: Muestra: 138 mujeres y sus recién nacidos. Diseño: Descriptivo, prospectivo, transversal, correlacional y cuantitativo. Muestreo: No probabilístico e intencional. Resultados: Se encontró que entre los recién nacidos, 8 fueron de peso pequeño, 112 adecuados y 18 grandes. Hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa (t student de la diferencia) en relación al peso materno pregestacional y el IMC materno pregestacional; así mismo, una alta correlación entre estas dos medidas y el peso del recién nacido. Conclusiones: el peso del recién nacido está influenciado de manera positiva con el peso e IMC maternos pregestacionales. Design: Descriptive, prospective, transversal, correlational and cuantitative. Sample: Non probabilistic and intentional. Results: Between the newborn, 8 were of small weight, 112 were adecuated and 18 big. There was a statistically significant difference (student´s t distribution) in relation with maternal pregestational weight and the maternal pregestational BMI; also, a high correlation between these two measures and the weight of new born. Conclusion: the weight of new born is influenced of positive way with the maternal pregestational weight and BMI. (AU).^ien.
