| Resumen: | Los objetivos de este trabajo tipo cohorte retrospectivo, son establecer la relación entre el perfil hematológico al momento del diagnóstico y los hallazgos del examen oftalmológicos en pacientes menores de 15 años con leucemia linfática aguda (LLA), evaluar factores de riesgo y determinar el pronóstico del compromiso ocular. Se evaluaron oftalmológicamente 120 pacientes menores de 15 años con LLA en el INEN, entre enero de 1991 y noviembre de 1993. El 53 por ciento eran de sexo masculino y la edad promedio fue de 77 meses. El 33 por ciento (40/120) presentó compromiso ocular. El 24 por ciento (29/120) presentó compromiso retinal. Se encontró asociación estadística entre compromiso retinal y edad mayor de 65 meses, leucocitos mayor de 100000 xmm3. No se encontró asociación con el resto de las variables. El pronóstico de las alteraciones oculares es excelente (AU)^iesBetween January 1991 and November 1993, 120 patients under 15 years of age had and ophthalmologic examination at the time the diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia was made at the Instituto de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN). The objective of this study was to establish if there was a correlation between the hematological profile at the time of diagnosis and the findings on ophthalmologic examen, as well as to evaluate the risk factors and to determine the prognosis of ocular involvement. 53 % were males with an average age of 77 months for the whole group. Initial ocular was seen in 33 % of the patients (40/120). 24 % (29/120) had retinal involvement. These was a statistical significant relation between retinal involvement and age at diagnosis; as well as between retinal involvement and an initial white blood cell count greater than 100,000. No statistical significance relation was found between sex, hemoglobin, organomely, initial platelet count and ocular involvement. All patients who presented with ocular involvement had complete resolution of those findings of flow up. No relationship was found between retinal ocular involvement with brain hemorrhage and/or Central Nervous System compromise. (AU)^ien.
